A delightful duo album by two sisters that, to my eternal shame, has lain unplayed in my in-tray for too long. But that's way it goes when you're targeted by the unrelenting army of P.R. hustlers out there.
Still class will out and justice finally prevailed.
Dynasty is very much Fuller family related. Whether it be an original by themselves or pieces by Sam Rivers, Freddie Hubbard or Horace Silver all are inspired by family members past and present.
Tia blows alto with the full (er) sound I love. Warm as breakfast toast and coupled with a saxophone technique that sends the pulses racing. Vocal-wise the effect is lesser.
Shamie is the ideal accompanist. They've grown up together and she can almost read her sister's mind. The Bachian counterpoint between the two on Black Viking and Ode to Bach are worthy of the MJQ or Brubeck/Desmond or indeed JSB himself.
Favourite track? A difficult one but, for me, it's Horace Silver's Summer in Central Park by a whisker. The laid back 3/4 is a moment to savour.
