This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. (Some) Gigs of the Year 2022.

These are but a small percentage of my favourite gigs (in no particular order) of 2022. I could easily draw up another list tomorrow that would be, maybe, 75% different!

I've omitted the various festivals such as the Classic Jazz Party, Newcastle Jazz Festival and the Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music. Individually they could produce top ten lists of their own and perhaps someone will.

Must admit I've been to more live classical than Jazz since moving away. A Jazz high light this year was Acoustic Triangle as part of the Swaledale Festival (https://www.swalefest.org/). Next year's festival is set to include Lance's favourite "shantoose" [chanteuse], Claire Martin.
