Early morning, a stage 3 recital in Newcastle University's subterranean Music Studios. The student musician in the spotlight, friend of the Black Swan jam session , Bailey Rudd. On Tuesday, Bailey acted in a supporting role to his friend Jacob Egglestone, this morning guitarist Jacob returned the favour.
Bailey's three examination pieces - Bright Size Life, There Will Never be Another You and Footprints - were familiar to all present, that's examiners, tutors (John Hirst is Bailey's drum tutor), technicians and supporters. Bailey knew he could count on Jacob, similarly bassist Jamie Watkins. As a trio they did just fine, Jacob and Jamie more than up to the job, so much so, solos were shared between the three of them. On There Will Never be Another You Bailey and the boys were joined by student vocalist Katrina Miller. Great to see all four of the Black Swan crew 'gigging' at such an early hour!
To close his recital, Bailey went into overdrive on the Ezra Collective's take on Footprints, a tremendous piece of drumming! Next year be sure to check out Bailey and the guys at one of the Black Swan sessions.
