This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Elsadie & the Bobcats @ Prohibition Bar, Newcastle - Dec. 11

Elsadie (vocals); Steve Chambers (keyboards); Jude Murphy (double bass, vocals)

En route from a packed Hoochie Coochie - farewell Jason Isaacs! - to Central Station Metro via a  look in at a snug Prohibition Bar, it was a slippin' 'n' a slidin' all the way. A bottle of Double Maxim, a vacant seat, let's listen to Elsadie. A new-ish name, this was a first opportunity to hear Kirstin Elsadie Smith. Winter Wonderland (alright, it's almost that time of year), The Girl From Ipanema (Elsadie sharing vocals with Jude Murphy, Jude singing the Portuguese lyric), Love Me or Leave Me, regulation stuff. As the delayed, much delayed train was due, off we went with Elsadie singing a neo-soul take on Bob Marley's Everything's Gonna Be Alright. Russell

Ah, such a shame, was wondering if you'd missed Kirstin's original song (one of three which we did across the 3 sets), which followed immediately after the Bob Marley tune.
