It was busy down at the Albion Gin and Ale House in Jarrow. It was an entertaining mix of football and music.
It all began with Sunderland huffing and puffing their way past Blackburn Rovers - 2-1 the scoreline. Things were easier for Newcastle who took an early 3-0 lead which they held until the end. Leicester brought on James Vardy but he failed to score - perhaps they should have brought on Mrs Vardy although her track record isn't good either.
In between these two sporting contests, we were entertained with a delightful set by Fenwick and Bainbridge. Despite the names, these two aren't moguls of the retail world past and present but two fine singer/guitarists.
Admittedly it wasn't jazz although Guy's vocal and Paul's solo on Ain't Misbehavin' certainly met the criteria. Mainly though, it was well crafted covers of pop classics such as Sunny Afternoon, Big Yellow Taxi and a few folky songs.
Fenwick (pictured to the right of the picture) is organising the first of a monthly blues jam at the pub next Monday (Jan. 2) and anticipates a good turn out offering as it does, the opportunity for sitters-in to blow, strum or sing away the old year's blues with some new year blues. A 1:00pm start gives you plenty time to wake up that morning. Yes, I said, a 1:00pm start sure gives you plenty time to wake up that morning ... Lance
Mon 02: Gin House Blues Jam @ The Albion, Walter St., Jarrow. 1:00pm. Tel: 0191 483 6792. New!
