This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Afternoon Delight @ Prohibition Bar - Dec. 7

Alan Jones (guitar, vocals); Alec J Gamble (guitar, piano, vocals) ? (guitar, piano, vocals); Brendan Rowley (bass); Frenchie ? (drums) + Mitch Mitchell (piano); ? (piano, drums)

Advertised variously as a 'jam session' and 'Afternoon Delight', it wasn't until the doors opened at noon that all would become clear as to who was involved and what form the session would take. First on the premises, toting a home made stick bass, Brendan Rowley. In time, Rowley would be joined by three guitarists - one being would be cornetist and swing dancer Alec J Gamble, another being Alan Jones and a third, name unknown. 
Frenchie occupied the drum stool. It soon became clear that this wasn't going to be a jazz jam session, far from it. More boogie-shuffle Americana than jazz - The Gambler, Folsom Prison Blues, Desperados. Rowley sang most of the numbers (loosely adhering to the melody), ranging from St James' Infirmary to Don't Think Twice to Johnny B Goode to Honky Tonk Women. Later in the set, Prohibition Bar proprietor Mitch Mitchell joined the party playing piano on House of the Rising Sun.
