This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Jacob Egglestone (guitar): Interim Recital @ Music Studios, Newcastle University - Dec. 13

In the run up to Christmas, Newcastle University music student interim recitals are in full swing. Today's busy schedule included a performance by Jacob Egglestone. Guitarist Jacob is a regular participant at the Black Swan jam session in the basement of Newcastle Arts Centre. 

This afternoon Jacob elected to perform three compositions - Stella by Starlight, Day and Age and Footprints. Jacob's student friends - bassist Jamie Watkins and drummer Bailey Rudd, themselves no strangers to the Black Swan - were on hand to support our examinee. Stella by Starlight was taken at a quicker tempo than anticipated, Julian Lage's Day and Age served to demonstrate Jacob's command of contemporary guitar developments and Wayne Shorter's Footprints topped off a confident performance.
