This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Jacob Egglestone (guitar): Interim Recital @ Music Studios, Newcastle University - Dec. 13

In the run up to Christmas, Newcastle University music student interim recitals are in full swing. Today's busy schedule included a performance by Jacob Egglestone. Guitarist Jacob is a regular participant at the Black Swan jam session in the basement of Newcastle Arts Centre. 

This afternoon Jacob elected to perform three compositions - Stella by Starlight, Day and Age and Footprints. Jacob's student friends - bassist Jamie Watkins and drummer Bailey Rudd, themselves no strangers to the Black Swan - were on hand to support our examinee. Stella by Starlight was taken at a quicker tempo than anticipated, Julian Lage's Day and Age served to demonstrate Jacob's command of contemporary guitar developments and Wayne Shorter's Footprints topped off a confident performance.
