This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Ten great vocal albums from 2021

It's that time of year when we pull crackers under the mistletoe and think about those albums that have given us the most pleasure over the past 12 months. Here are ten of my favourite vocal albums - in no particular order:


The above albums, as you may have observed, are all by girl vocalists. This isn't a sexist thing it's just that the guys' PR people didn't send me many male vocal albums although the Roseanna Vitro album does have some fine vocals by the late Bob Dorough (and  Sheila Jordan) - I guess that that one scores either way. So, in a virtual one horse race the prize goes to James Hudson's Tomorrow.

Agreed Gerry but I can only comment on the albums I've heard in full rather than isolated tracks.
