When Noel Dennis introduced Zoë Gilby to Tom Harrell's music she was so taken by the melodic lines that it inspired her to write some lyrics. This became a project that eventually led to well-received performances at jazz clubs and festivals and the inevitable request, "When's the CD being released?"
That question will be resolved on Friday April 16 via a livestream launch from Gosforth Civic Theatre.*
Zoë's individual, easily identifiable, voice is tailor-made for Harrell's music and her lyrics, like those of Joni Mitchell, convey exactly what the song is all about. Tender at times, caressing the melody. Tempestuous at other times, taking chances and beating the odds.
Noel Dennis is one of the most lyrical trumpet players around - and I don't just mean around here but around anywhere.
Mark Williams, like Zoë, can also be tender and sympathetic but, when the chips are down, he too can turn up the heat!
Andy and Russ are solid in support holding it all together.
If you've heard this set live then you'll want this. If you haven't, then now is the time to make up for the error of your ways. If you love Zoë you'll love this!
