This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Digital release from Knats

Knats have been receiving quite a bit of coverage on BSH in recent weeks via gigs at Hoochie, The Globe and other venues around Newcastle. Deservedly so.

They're a band who may not yet have decided where they are going but you know that, wherever it is, they'll get there. Whether they get there together or as individuals remains to be seen. With music college places on the horizon their paths may diverge but, in the meantime they have laid down a couple of tracks (digitally) that tells us where they are at and hints at where or where not they may be going.

Ferg Kilsby is surely the most promising young trumpet player currently on the scene and he's literally at only the beginning of his journey - watch this space!

Nor are his associates any less able although I suspect they may - and it's a very qualified may - ultimately move in different directions. However, for the time being let's cherish this groundfloor moment.
