It's a sad state of affairs that in twenty first century Britain soup kitchens and food banks are commonplace. It doesn't have to be like this but don't hold your breath that things will change anytime soon. Newcastle's People's Kitchen does sterling work in feeding those in need and it's become something of an annual occasion in the run up to Christmas for the Northern Monkey Brass Band to turn up at the organisation's Bath Street premises to play a set of N' Awlins-inspired tunes.
Woolly hats, gloves (that's the band!), never has the phrase 'brass monkeys' been more applicable! NMBB originals, the Jacksons, the Human League and more, People's Kitchen clients and volunteer workers alike were dancing in the street.
