The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Anything Goes: live from the Barbican - Dec. 26

A cracking show on BBC2 live from the Barbican. Words and Music by Cole Porter what more could one ask for?

Not all of the songs were from the original 1934 production - It's De-Lovely was from the 1936 show Red, Hot and Blue and only incorporated into Anything Goes twenty years later. However, You're the Top, I Get a Kick Out of You, Blow, Gabriel Blow and (obviously) the title track were from the original and Nicole-Lily Baisden did manage the middle eight without taking a breath!

The dance routines were stunning and the orchestra were "the tops - Napoleon Brandy, Mahatma Gandhi etc."  But, and here's the rub, the credits at the end flashed by so quickly I was unable to get the names. Fortunately, thanks to BBC iplayer I managed to get screenshots. One or two familiar names - Lance
