Whilst
the Wigmore Hall is usually associated with classical performances, it
also provides a very diverse range of music. Tonight’s performance
provided a very wide-ranging musical selection, merging well established pieces
with varying amounts of improvisation, demonstrating that Wigmore are
keeping their musical palette diverse and wonderfully refreshing.
The music and performers were
excellent (aided by the superb Wigmore Hall acoustics) as was the livestream
quality. I noted that the live component was confirmed by the faint
rumbling sound of the Tube passing underground during Clowes talking between
pieces.

One sidebar comment during the
livestream remarked that the instrument is one the very best Steinway model D pianos in the world and played only at select concert halls - Moscow Philharmonic have one at their Tchaikovsky
Hall and the Israel Philharmonic have the other two. It was a joy
to hear Stanley play on this instrument and he complemented Clowes’ playing perfectly.
