Noah Haidu (piano); Buster Williams (bass); Billy Hart (drums).
A rather splendid tribute to the now retired piano legend Keith Jarrett by a pianist who, although new to me, was acknowledged by JazzTimes in 2011 as "a rising star" and, by Jazzwise, as "an important new talent" which just shows you what happens when you take your eye off the ball.
My eyes are back on the ball!
Catching up on this, Haidu's latest release, provides ample proof that he has very much absorbed the Jarrett aura to the extent that I left the room to sneeze (joke!). The feeling is there but Haidu, without question, is still very much his own man.
It's a mixed programme with What a Difference a Day Made, Georgia on my Mind and But Beautiful keeping the standard bearers happy.
Jarrett's Rainbow serves to remind listeners what the album's all about as the beautiful waltz segues into Haidu's Song For Keith Jarrett.
Haidu also composed Slowly and Buster chipped in with Air Dancing whilst Billy Hart threw in Duchess and Lorca.
There's a beautiful quote from the session by Haidu - "When Buster Williams says 'go for it, Billy and I got your back [covered]' that really resonates."
I guess he took their advice!
Beautiful ...
