I remember depping there once with the Clem Avery Jazzmen, but the drummer was Gordon Herrick. Incidentally I had a Hillman Husky at that time.....
Gordon Solomon.
Interesting story about the Skiff Inn at Derwenthaugh, My dad played piano there for years
when we lived there,Always full of sailors from the ships being loaded at the staithes. This was in the 1930's & 40's I think its the only place left standing now!

Valerie McDowell recalls going to The Skiff with her late husband Jim to hear the Jimmy Miller Trio. Jimmy Miller was one of the great northeast (via Scotland) pianists who, somehow or other, seems to have been overlooked in the mists of time. It would be great to have his status restored to local jazz folklore. I personally recall him playing at The Blaydon Races - a pub now long gone - just up the road from The Skiff - near Stella Power Station. I recall Dave Hedley singing Tangerine and Ray Jobling on bass.
