This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. WEA Jazz Courses: We need YOU!

The WEA Jazz courses with Steve Glendinning started successfully last week, but we need more people to attend for the courses to continue.
I’m too ladylike to say we need more bums on seats, but that’s the size of it!
Improvisation from 1pm to 3pm and Jazz Appreciation from 3pm to 5pm, both at the Unitarian Church in Ellison Place in Newcastle city centre.
I was at the Jazz Appreciation and it was a real treat, so don’t miss out!  We listened to some early jazz from Jelly Roll Morton and discussed what was going on in the music.  Next week we are going to compare this with swing, post 1930.  Loads of useful information, and Steve gave musical examples on his guitar.  I now know the exact reason why a ‘standard’ is called a ‘standard.’
