Today [Saturday] @ The Classic Jazz Party

More goodies in store today:
12 noon – 12.30pmJelly -  Library of Congress Memories.
In 1938, Jelly-Roll Morton made a long series of recordings for the Folk Song Division of the Library of Congress, telling of his life and times, both in speech and music. Martin Litton and Spats Langham explore & demonstrate some of this priceless jazz heritage.
-----
12.30pm – 1.30pmThe Freshmen.
Recordings for the Gennett record label were pivotal in early Jazz. Their home base was in RichmondIndiana, 250 miles by road from Chicago. The New Orleans Rhythm Kings and the Wolverines made the trek several times. Claus has made a selection from the recordings of both bands. Andy Schumm (trumpet); Alistair Allan (trombone); Claus Jacobi, Mauro Porro (reeds); Morten Gunnar Larsen (piano); Spats Langham (Banjo, guitar); Phil Rutherford (brass bass); Josh Duffee (drums).
-----
1.30pm – 2.30pmThe Duke’s Men.
From 1936-1940, Ellington stars Rex Stewart, Barney Bigard, Cootie Williams and Johnny Hodges made recordings with small groups drawn from the main band. Enrico presents a selection of these gems. Enrico Tomasso (trumpet);  Alistair Allan (trombone); Matthias Seuffert, Claus Jacobi (reeds); David Boeddinghaus (piano); Henry Lemaire (guitar); Malcolm Sked (bass); Richard Pite (drums).
-----
2.30pm – 3.00pmJack Purvis, The Man of Mystery.
For many years, the trumpeter Purvis was only known from a few (albeit excellent) recordings of 1929-30. Recent research has discovered more, and also that his career (both in and out of music), was extremely varied and often sensational. Frans will explain! Bent Persson (trumpet); Kris Kompen (trombone); Lars Frank (reeds); Morten Gunnar Larsen (piano); Jacob Ullberger (banjo, guitar); Frans Sjöström (bass saxophone); Josh Duffee (drums).
-----
3.00pm – 4.00pmSweetie Pie – Janice Day.
Janice and Keith have very carefully chosen some delightful but relatively unknown songs, mostly from the later 1920s. Some instrumental numbers will also be included. Janice Day is accompanied by Menno Daams (trumpet); Graham Hughes (trombone); Mauro Porro (reeds); Emma Fisk (violin); Keith Nichols (piano); Martin Wheatley (banjo, guitar); Malcolm Sked (bass, brass bass); Richard Pite (drums).
-----
4.00pm – 5.00pmClarinetitis – Johnny Dodds .
Any tribute to Johnny Dodds is always welcome. In this one, Claus and Thomas also present some of the numbers he recorded with the Dixieland Jug Blowers. Enrico Tomasso (trumpet); Matthias Seuffert, Claus Jacobi; Thomas Winteler (reeds); Emma Fisk (violin); Martin Litton (piano); Spats Langham, Jacob Ullberger, Martin Wheatley (banjo, guitar); Malcolm Sked (bass); Nicholas Ball (washboard).
DINNER
7.30pm – 8.00pmThe Professor – David Boeddinghaus.
After gaining  a master’s degree in classical performance, David initially worked in New Orleans and subsequently – and quite literally – all over the world. We are greatly privileged to welcome this distinguished musician to the Jazz Party.
-----
8.00pm – 9.00pm:  Hot Girls of the World.
Georgia Brown and Louisville Lou are but two of the legendary ‘Hot Girls’ commemorated in song titles. There are quite a number of others, and in this session, Janice Day introduces you to some of them. Claus leads the supporting band. Janice Day, (vocals); Duke Heitger, Bent Persson, Andy Schumm (trumpets); Alistair Allan (trombone); Jean-François Bonnel, Claus Jacobi, Mauro Porro (reeds); Richard Pite (piccolo); Emma Fisk (violin); Martin Litton (piano); Spats Langham (banjo, guitar); Phil Rutherford (brass bass); Nicholas Ball (drums).
-----
9.00pm – 10.00pmThe Musicianer  -  Sidney Bechet.
It’s high time for a tribute to the immortal Sidney Bechet! We are lucky indeed to have Thomas Winteler to undertake this for us. Thomas is from a musical family, so began playing while young, and very soon became an award-winner. Bent Persson (trumpet); Graham Hughes (trombone); Thomas Winteler (reeds); Morten Gunnar Larsen (piano); Henry Lemaire (banjo).
-----
10.00pm – 11.00pmCoast to Coast – a 1920’s Radio Broadcast.
Radio broadcasting first flourished in the U.S.A. (and that mightily) from the earliest 1920s. National coverage was at first impossible, so local stations often linked together by relay. The culmination was the spectacular Coast to Coast broadcast, which hopped from studio to studio all over the U.S.A. – and all done ‘live’! Keith leads the music and song, while the inimitable Josh Duffee is your Master of Ceremonies.
Enrico Tomasso, Menno Daams, Duke Heitger (trumpets); Kris Kompen (trombone); Matthias Seuffert, Lars Frank, Claus Jacobi (reeds); Emma Fisk (violin); Keith Nichols (piano); Spats Langham (banjo, guitar); Malcolm Sked (bass, brass bass); Frans Sjöström (bass saxophone); Richard Pite (drums). Also featuring Martin Litton (piano), vocals by Janice Day and Emma Fisk and a solo by Thomas Winteler.
-----
11.00pm – ????: Victory Pub Jam.
Duke Heitger directs the second Jam Session of the Party. It may not at first rival the size of the band on the ‘Coast to Coast’ session; but later – who knows? Duke Heitger (trumpet); Thomas Winteler (reeds); Morten Gunnar Larsen (piano); Martin Wheatley (banjo, guitar); Henry Lemaire (bass); Debbie Arthurs (drums).
