Last weekend, one of the sponsors of this year's Newcastle Jazz Festival was Transmission Dynamics. This weekend the Cramlington based company hosted a music festival on its front lawn. As the sun shone on Sunset Festival (for Ukraine), we tolerated an annoying breeze (more wind than breeze), food vans fed and watered the punters, the stage hosting an array of musicians.
On a flying visit to Transmission Dynamics on Innovation Way, the band to hear - Tyneside favourites House of the Black Gardenia - was about to take to the stage to play the first of two sets. Opening with Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho, Elise, Neil and co were in fine fettle. If the swirling wind was a distraction, HotBG didn't let it show.
A short, half hour set featured several favourites, including Comes Love, the winning One in a Million and the danceable set-closer, Viper Mad (Elise and Michael sharing the vocals). As festivals go, Sunset Festival could have legs. 2027 anyone? Russell
Set list: Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho; Comes Love; Dead Man Calypso; Don't Be That Way; One in a Million; Viper Mad.
