This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Preview: Tony Bennett on BBC 2 (Saturday)

This evening (Saturday) BBC 2 devotes more than four hours' airtime to the late, great Tony Bennett. Five programmes, all of them repeats, but hey, this is the Tony Bennett. Starting at 9:00pm with Tony Bennett at the London Palladium: BBC Sessions (from 2011, marking Bennett's then 85th birthday) to Arena: Tony Bennett's New York (10:00pm) featuring David Hockney and Wynton Marsalis, followed by two editions of Tony Bennett Sings (11:20pm) to the evening's final programme (12:20am), from 2007 at LSO St Luke's, in London, Tony Bennett: BBC Sessions.
