Dave Weisser's jam session wake @ the Globe, Newcastle - August 2

Dave Weisser's send off at Saltwell Crematorium has been more than adequately documented by BSH Editor-in-Chief LL. Later in the afternoon it was 'all back to the Globe' for a spectacular jam session send-off. Jazz Co-op HQ on Railway Street was jumpin', packed to the rafters with musicians who, at one time or other, worked with trumpeter, vocalist and Take it to the Bridge jam session MC extraordinaire Mr David Allen Weisser. 

From the off, at any one time the stage accommodated at least half a dozen rotating musicians, the ensemble frequently hitting double figures, at one point fifteen, yes, fifteen musicians were up there blowing. All had known Dave Weisser, some had benefitted from his sage guidance, a mentor of sorts, providing a platform to all and sundry.

The 'names' were many, too many to list. That said, how about this lot...Kirstin Elsadie Smith, Bev Wilson, Mo Scott and, of course, Jude Murphy! Take it to the Bridge will, no doubt, continue long into the future. It's Dave Weisser's lasting legacy to the regional jazz scene.  Russell
