I know that some were in rehab after an overdose of Covid, that others had succumbed to the Transpontine Symptom (fear of crossing the Tyne Bridge) and some had, inexcusably, jetted off to Spain.
However, without naming names - you know who you are and your names will forever be carved in stone - there were some, so called modern jazz fans, who missed this fantastic gig without any excuse.
The Sunday lunch could have been heated up in the microwave, you could have walked the dog earlier/later and you could have well er done that later too.
Nevertheless, like the supposedly thousands who claimed to have been in the Cellar Club when Jimi Hendrix played there, in years to come you too will claim to have been at the Central Bar last Sunday afternoon for Lewis Watson, Alan Law, Mick Shoulder and John Bradford invoking the spirit of Sonny Rollins' Saxophone Colossus.
You should have been! Lance
