This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Black Swan Jam Session, Newcastle Arts Centre - June 6 (continued)

As BSH's Editor-in-Chief made a sharp exit to avoid/escape the departing Arena hordes (was it Kiss?), the Black Swan jam session was coming to the boil. What at first sounded like St Denis turned out to be When Sonny Gets Blue featuring the young guns Jacob Egglestone, Jamie Watkins and Freddie Richards with 'bone and vocals courtesy of Showtime, Stu Collingwood keeping order at the piano.

What at first sounded like Donna Lee probably was Donna Lee with most of the young guns onboard plus the keen-as-mustard Edgar Bell. It was time for Esther Coombes to lead the parade, setting off at a liquorice stick lick on Mr PC, Sid White pushing it along with JP, that's John Pope,
along for the ride. 

To close, MC Paul Grainger press-ganged all present to get onboard the A Train. And off they went, all guns blazing (Jacob Egglestone and Luis Verde giving it some). The next Black Swan jam session is set for Tuesday 20 June (7:30pm prompt). You are invited to join the house trio (Alan Law, Paul Grainger, Tim Johnston) or to simply take a seat to enjoy the best free show in town. Russell
