This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Sunday night @ the Globe - Richard Jones Trio

(Press release) Comprising three young, rising-star musicians on the UK scene – Joshua Cavanagh-Brierley on bass, Johnny Hunter on drums and Richard Jones on piano – the Manchester-based Richard Jones Trio was born out of the renewed friendship that came in the period post-lockdown, when old friends finally felt able to share a room once more. All three players have been steeped in musical backgrounds from an early age, ranging from classical to avant-garde improv, and that sense of combined rich heritage oozes from every pore of their debut album, “Angle Shades”.

Richard Jones is a pianist, improviser and composer based in Manchester, UK. Growing up in a musical family exposed Richard to a broad range of styles and his career reflects that, studying classical violin before focusing on the piano with jazz and improvisation. After years of playing for other artists’ projects, Richard has recently formed his own trio with Joshua Cavanagh-Brierley and Johnny Hunter.
