This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) PBS America - jazz, jazz, jazz

Friend of BSH, Tony Eales, has been in touch to alert readers to a twelve part documentary series currently being shown again on PBS America. The first episode was screened yesterday (Tuesday) but, fear not, there is a further opportunity to watch it on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 7) at five o'clock. Meanwhile, the next episode - The Gift: 1917 to 1924 - will be aired today at 5:40pm and again at 9:50pm. The remaining episodes featuring many of the jazz greats - Bix (pictured), Louis, Benny G et al - will be shown at least twice, if not three times, a day, on successive days starting tomorrow through to Thursday 12 Jan.
