Over on BBC 4 the Young Jazz Musician of the Year was being crowned whilst at the 606 Club an already long established monarch reigned supreme bringing this year's EFG London Jazz Festival to a close which, not surprisingly, she did in style ably aided and abetted by henchmen Carey and Field.
A choice selection of standards sung and played in her inimitable manner had the in-house audience showing their appreciation and the "outhouse" (livestreamers) audience no doubt doing likewise.
Come Rain or Come Shine set the benchmark for excellence followed by a reference to a gig in Brighton - Almost Like Being in Hove.
Skylark had all the elegance of the bird immortalised in words and music by Johnny M and Hoagy C.
I Didn't Know What Time it Was with it's wonderful middle 8: "Grand to be alive, to be young, To be mad, to be yours alone. Grand to see your face, feel your touch, hear your voice say I'm all your own" drawn out very effectively in an almost legato manner.
Fever, with the obligatory finger-snapping, segued briefly into My Heart Belongs to Daddy, and impressed as did Carey's Fender Jazz bass feature Lullaby of Birdland.
Tom Waits provided I'm Gonna Take it With me When I go. Caravan had Liane scatting and Field giving the old Juan Tizol classic a good thumping before the highlight of an evening that was full of highlights - Janis Ian's At Seventeen beautifully sung, the words tugging at your heartstrings and reminding me of when I saw Ms Ian at Sage Gateshead back in 2011.
The livestream closed with a couple of Nina Simone favourites : My Baby Just Cares For Me and Sinner Man.
A great set and you can hear more from Liane Carroll @ the Globe in Newcastle on Dec. 4. Lance
