This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. R.I.P. Gordon McGregor

Just heard from Brian Bennett that reed player, Gordon McGregor, passed away on Sunday (Sept. 9). 

Brian refers to Gordon as a top-notch ‘jazzer’ on alto/soprano sax and clarinet and played alongside trumpeters Gerry Denning and Pete Wright for many years mainly around the Stockton/Teesside area. He was also a regular with the Belton brothers’ Tees Valley Jazzmen. 

Gordon's wife, Jean, said it was quite sudden and believed it was a heart attack. Brian chatted to him recently at Pickering Trad Jazz Festival observing that he was in a wheelchair and appeared to be quite frail. 

In the photo Gordon McGregor can be seen with the Vieux Carré Jazzmen at the Burnside Hotel, Bowness, in 2013.

Sorry to hear this sad news about Gordon. He was a fine musician capable of many different styles of playing both sax and clarinet and was also a very friendly and helpful person.
