At this sad time many gigs are, understandabĺy, being cancelled. It's a time, not so much for mourning, as a time to show respect to a lady who has served this country well and drew the admiration of no less a member of jazz royalty as Duke Ellington who, I think, like myself, "Loved Her Madly".
There were other jazz links. Stan Kenton's version of the National Anthem knocked the more traditional versions (and the Sex Pistols) out of the park.
On the year of her coronation the 1953 Melody Maker All Stars, which included Kenny Baker, Ronnie Scott, Vic Ash, Jack Parnell and many of the other British hot shots of the time, celebrated the occasion with two takes of a number entitled Coronation Jump. And, btw, it was wonderful to dust off that old Esquire 10" album. Thank you ma'am.
