This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Jazz on the Tyne previews the Newcastle Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music 2022

To preview this year’s Newcastle Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music, presenter Colin Muirhead has prepared two podcasts, featuring his interview with festival producer Wesley Stephenson, and music by many of the acts who will be performing there.

The first programme, which will be available on Mixcloud from noon on Saturday 17th September, includes music by Archipelago, Andrew Woodhead’s Pendulums project, SA Malley, Skylla, the Anthropology Band, Mark Solborg, Maniscalco/Bignoni/Solborg, Binker Golding, and Alexander Hawkins.

In the second programme, which will be uploaded to Mixcloud at noon on Saturday 24th September, you can hear music by some of the acts appearing during the final weekend of the festival; namely, Nicole Mitchell, Black Top, Beck Hunters, Zoe Gilby feat. Noel Dennis, John Garner & John Pope, Helen Anahita Wilson, and Bex Burch & Leafcutter John.
