(Press release)In bringing the ever-popular Scottish quartet JazzMain back to The Globe, we welcome back a foursome that will well and truly lift your spirits. Early last year when the band last performed at The Globe, we witnessed a real tour-de-force of quality jazz – music that was almost off-the-scale in its full-throttle, yet subtly nuanced, colourful and dynamic approach – in reality, you wouldn’t expect anything less from this band which has only had one change of personnel since its formation back in 2003.
In the intervening 19 years, they have performed hundreds of shows across the UK and Ireland as advocates for interpreting the Blue Note Records’ catalogue – the ground-breaking label long associated with the likes of Jimmy Heath, Horace Silver, Sonny Rollins and Dexter Gordon. Add in works by Grover Washington Jr, Stevie Wonder amongst a raft of other great, trailblazing composers, then you soon realise how JazzMain never resorts to the ‘tried and tested’ – the quartet continually stretches its musical boundaries which has helped to forge exceptionally strong performance partnerships with the likes of guitar legend, Jim Mullen, trumpet maestro Bruce Adams and the multi-award-winning renowned UK tenor saxophonist Simon Spillett.
Line up: Nick Gould - tenor sax, Steve Grossart - keys, Iain Harkness - bass,
Kevin Dorrian - drums.
