This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Auntie Joy 2 - Ryton, March 19

Following on from last September's inaugural Auntie Joy improv sessions, Nigel Pownceby has sent the following information on this year's events - Lance

We had a very good session last time out, with not previously seen improvisers joining more familiar faces, along with a number of very absorbed audience members in observer mode.

The session will be hosted by Faye MacCalman and John Pope.

Note however, that earlier in the afternoon at the local Church, Christian Alderson of Archipelago fame, will take his drums and percussion and "found sound" into the sacred space for playing in accompaniment to the Church bells.

Following Christian will be Shunyata IG with Mark Carroll (cello), John Garner (violin) Martin Donkin (guitar) and myself (gentle racket), and then Kate Halsall will present some old and new music pieces on her harmonium, the Church piano and electronic sounds.
