Three thirty Sundays, come rain, shine or pandemic, Marjorie Eliot opens her apartment to visitors from all over the globe. Pianist Eliot has been doing so since 1993, never missing a week. This afternoon/evening two guests dropped by.
A full house, everyone (musicians included) donning a face covering, the jazz ranged from twenties' material to Monk and beyond. Eliot's son Rudel Drears appears to be a larger than life character, he's the Monk man in the household at 555 Edgecombe Avenue, sharing piano duties with Eliot as they play a solo piano piece or accompany their guests. Trumpeter Nick Mauro and Sedric Shukroon (clarinet) took to the stand to play a selection of standards (Take the A Train, Lover, Come Back to Me) and bop material, the attentive audience respectful of their efforts.
Refreshments were offered, a collection bucket proffered and filled with donations of the folding stuff. Today's concert drew to a close with a spirited When the Saints Go Marching In.
