A live music event exploring the points of connection across genres
Renowned music blog Written Records (WR) presents its first ever live event, Interchanges, at The Cluny in Newcastle this February. Interchanges is an exciting new music night exploring the places in which genres meet, and in which new sounds are discovered. The very first Interchanges event will explore the points of connection between jazz, hip hop and spoken word, through a mixture of live performance and recorded work at Cluny 2 on Sunday 27th February.
WR’s Interchanges will grace us with an incredible line up of emerging artists on its launch night. From across the northern jazz and hip hop scenes, a range of artists will be coming together to collaborate and create a one-off, never-to-be-heard-again live performance. The night will explore in-the-moment collaboration and improvisation whilst also reflecting the historical trajectory which links jazz to contemporary genres like hip hop.
The line up includes MF Doom-inspired jazz instrumentalists Jasmine Quintet, who will be joined by local MC and hip hop artist Holly Flo Lightly. If this wasn’t exciting enough, North East beatmakers Chumbo will be working with recordings from Obsidian Foundation fellow, hip hop artist and broadcaster Repeat Beat Poet.
From jazz roots to contemporary hip hop, from beats to MC’ing and spoken word, Interchanges will join up the dots, bringing together audiences, artists and sounds - join us for an incredible night of collaboration, improvisation, and connection.
