This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Album review: Søren Kristiansen & Thomas Fonnesbæk - The Touch

Danish musicians Søren Kristiansen & Thomas Fonnesbæk Plays the Music of OP & NHOP is the album's sub-title which translates as SK & TF Plays the music of Oscar Peterson & Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen in a unique take on a classic jazz partnership by an evolving present day jazz partnership.

The combination of Peterson and Pedersen set a challenging benchmark for any duo to aim for and the fact that Kristiansen and Fonnesbæk are able to step up to the mark without falter says much for their own standing and, of the course the material they have to work with.

Kristiansen has perfectly captured Peterson's style without a suggestion of plagiarism whilst Fonnesbæk, like NHOP was, is the ideal partner - listen to the bass lines on There is no Greater Love - just so so melodic.

Six Peterson originals including one co-written with Pedersen and three standards make for an excellent 52 minutes and 28 seconds.
