This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Four @ The Exchange, North Shields - Nov. 24

Four Play Blues is the title of one of the original compositions by four musicians who call themselves “Four” and who are currently playing regularly at The Exchange in North Shields….As well as this original we were treated to a selection of standards by four musicians who are gaining quite a following at this converted police station in Bedford Street.

A driving rhythm section and mellow saxophone gave us everything from Jobim to Brecht via such standards as Autumn Leaves, Moon River, Corcovado, Yardbird Suite and a beautiful How Insensitive from Bernie Ranson who showed he can sing in both German and Portuguese. 

Once again two solid hours of smooth jazz in a beautiful old building. There will be many other nights like this……I hope so…..catch them again on Dec. 1 - Sylvia

And if you're thinking of going to the Exchange on Saturday to see the East Coast Swing Band it's 'make your mind up time' with just ten remaining tickets up for grabs!
