This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Zoë Gilby and Andy Champion in the Victoria Tunnel - Nov.12

Jazz is everywhere and sometimes it's even beneath your feet. There's more than Orpheus in the underworld. There's Zoë Gilby for a start and Andy Champion for another.

Back in 2019, the dynamic duo played a gig inside the Victoria Tunnel. The rumour was that the tunnel was built as an escape route for the Mike Ashley regime when the fans at St James' Park were getting restless. However, it was built long before that, even before the days when the supporters would want to tunnel their way into the ground.

Nevertheless, fascinating as all this is, for the jazz community the excitement currently centres around Zoë and Andy's upcoming gig (Nov. 12 @ 7:30pm - £12.).

Steve H reviewed their 2019 gig and, reading it again, it has the sound of a musical adventure. How could it not be? Above or below ground they're always flying - Lance
