This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) The Sunday Service marching to New Orleans - June 27

Adrian Cox (clarinet; vocals); Jack Cotterill (drums)

New Orleans by way of Bulgaria and soon to be moving on to Denmark, Adrian Cox continues his virtual (and not so virtual) globetrotting lifestyle. Today's Sunday Service saw Cox joined by none other than Jack Cotterill. What's Cotterill doing out in Bulgaria? you ask. 'Working' seems to be the answer. 'Nice work' etc....

Given the source material some of today's tunes dated from the 18th century, the American Civil War and all that.* A couple of clarinet numbers to start followed by a first vocal of the day - The Second Line. Cox's clarinet-vocal numbers never fail to hit the spot, energised, not to mention virtuosic. Some forty minutes in, Jack Cotterill appeared front of camera, just in time to accompany Cox on It Feels So Good as our man sang once again. Finally, to see out today's Sunday Service, Moose March, as played by the Crane River Jazz Band and many others. Interestingly, Cox first played several of today's numbers as a young lad, turning pro - would you believe? - at fifteen! Next Sunday (July 4), join Adrian Cox at one o'clock when our man will be in Denmark. Nice work etc....
