(I received this post from Len Gatoff, long retired drummer from the early days of jazz in the north east who I know from interval conversations at The Cherry Tree and via our mutual friendship with Maurice Summerfield - Lance)
I would be very grateful for your help by using your website to promote the sale of my LP collection.
The collection is due to go on sale at Anderson and Garland auctioneers at 10:00 am on July 8.
There are over 100 LPs all in their original covers.
On the roof count is: Count Basie seven, other big bands 13 including Buddy Rich, Gene Harris, Frankie Capp's Juggernaut and Lionel Hampton.
The pianists include 12 Oscar Peterson's, George Shearing, Dave Brubeck and Monty Alexander.
Drummers include more Buddy and a big collection of Shelly Manne.
Vocalists include 17 by Mel Tormé and another 45 including Eila, Sarah Vaughan, Ernestine Anderson, and Sinatra.
Another 45 jazz albums by soloists including Coltrane.
There are also about 14 LPs from musicals and other shows.
That’s about as much as I can remember!
Len Gatoff
