This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Gerry Hughes Tribute Event at Dormans Club

A tribute to the late Gerry Hughes will take place at Dormans Club Middlesbrough on Saturday June 12.

Two sessions are planned, an afternoon outdoor session starting at 12:00 noon with various singers and musicians, followed by an hour and a half of Jazz from 2:00pm. This will be provided by Ian Bosworth (guitar); Richie Emmerson (tenor sax); Dave Archbold (keys); Paul Dickerson (Bass); and Mark Hawkins (drums).

A separate indoor session will be held on the night with entertainment from various blues bands.

Tickets will be £5 for each session. These can be obtained from Dormans Club along with any further information. Tel. No. 01642 823813.
