This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Live at Pete's Place - June 28

Pete Horsfall first met Alex Bryson some six years ago at a gig in a NYC bar. Pianist Bryson had earlier graduated from Trinity, London before relocating to the Big Apple. They subsequently recorded an album together and this evening reunited to play an online gig. Ellington and Fats Waller ensured a cast iron start to the session. Horsfall's vocal numbers offer a similar degree of 'quality assurance'. Two such numbers - Everything I Have is Yours and I Cover the Waterfront - maintained the standard. And another - I Cried for You.

Horsfall said he was keen to keep the stream short*...other streamers take note! A blues - Creole Love Call - would prove to be the penultimate number, excellent trumpet from PH. To close, Sacha Distel's The Good Life. This Monday evening stream was Horsfall's first attempt at a virtual gig. It went well. Do another one, Pete.       

* A set of approximately fifty minutes' duration.
