The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. KSTV: Kit Downes livestream from Kansas Smitty's - March 16

This was one of those nights where, back in olden days, you'd go into your local jazz club, order a beer, chat up the bar person and be aware that there was music going on although at that moment in time the music may not have been your top priority.

As we approached and maybe passed maturity, the music did become the thing and we now tut-tut and shush any youngsters doing exactly what we were doing x years earlier. 

With lockdowns and livestreams all that has changed and now the concentration is in and the frivolity out - except on blogs like this one!

If this may have seemed to be a bit of a preamble before getting around to tonight it's simply because, like the indefatigable Ann Alex in an earlier post today, I'm faced with one of those gigs that don't need words other than the facts which are: 
Kit Downes composed all of the tunes.*
Kit Downes is an excellent pianist and composer.
Will Sach plays mighty fine bass.
Alex Ridout blows hot and cool trumpet.
Kansas Smitty's on Tuesday will be your good news day.**
