Nick Malcolm (trumpet); Corey Mwamba (vibes)
BSH favourites Corey Mwamba and Nick Malcolm have played together in various ensembles and have become firm friends over the years. The pair decided that where they best connected was as a duo so after a gig in Bristol the duo decided to record this album of improvised duets with engineer Alex Bonney.
The music as one might expect from this combination of instruments is stark and minimalist but with frequent bursts of energy to keep one in anticipation of what will happen next,.Frequently Malcolm takes the lead with Mwamba augmenting with delicate passages on the vibes but occasionally the roles are reversed to equally great affect, The intensity of their improvisation really comes across and the atmosphere is punctuated with poignant motifs from both players.
A fascinating album and a great document of a both a musical and personal friendship.
