This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Super Saturday - well mainly...

What a day this has been what a rare mood I'm in why it's almost like being in Hoboken (or Trent Bridge - but not Leicester!)
The day began well with the Ashes victory and continued for me by watching last night's Sinatra shows on BBC4. Part 1 of the four part series All or Nothing at All gave us an atmospheric look at Old Blue Eyes' early days with tantalisingly brief song snatches. Look forward to Part 2.
The John Wilson/Seth MacFarlane/Jamie Parker/Claire Martin  Prom package at the Albert Hall was a delight with all singers on form although, like so many before them, not within an inch of the original!
For me, the highlight was Claire Martin singing The Folks Who Live on the Hill. Peggy Lee made this her own but Claire came closer than anyone in capturing the poignant magic of that Jerome Kern classic. Just to hear so many great songs was fantastic. No High Hopes, Strangers in the Night, My Way or Something Stupid, just gassers from the pens of the greats
Great start to the football season by Sunderland with them scoring two goals - they don't do that very often. Shame Leicester City scored four.
