Bebop Spoken There

Dave Puddy: "Eventually we paid our entrance money [to Eel Pie Island] and fought our way to one of the many bars where we could buy our Newcastle Brown and retire to the back of the heaving dancefloor. There must have been lights somewhere, but my memory remains of being in some dark cavernous wonderland." - (Just Jazz July 2020)

Dave Rempis:Ten years from now, I can see musicians streaming concerts in real time and charging a minimal amount for people to watch.” - (DownBeat September 2013)

The Things They Say!

Hudson Music: Lance's "Bebop Spoken Here" is one of the heaviest and most influential jazz blogs in the UK.

Rupert Burley (Dynamic Agency): "BSH just goes from strength to strength".

Today

As we all know there are no live gigs taking place in the immediate future. However, any links to jazz streaming that are deemed suitable - i.e. with a professional approach - will be considered for posting.

Be Early For the Early Birds

(Preview by Russell)
This Friday, August 7, if you’re thinking about going to the Jazz Café to hear the Paul Edis Trio (what’s to think about?) make an extra special effort and arrive at seven thirty. The best jazz trio in town will begin the first of two sets at the usual time (nine o’clock) but before then there is the added bonus of a public performance by members of pianist Paul Edis’ Early Bird student band.

The Early Bird Band comprises five or six (maybe more) young musicians making their way in the world of jazz. Tutored by Edis, the students have been working on a number of tunes, and, importantly, giving a half hour performance at the Lit & Phil on Saturday mornings – hence the ‘Early Bird’ tag! Think ‘Yardbird’ too; the spirit of Parker with an aspiration to fly high. This Jazz Café event is a ‘live’ gig. These young musicians have a desire to succeed, they’ll show no fear. Get along and show your support. 7:30pm sharp.
Russell.
