This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Melody Maker - the Dead Sea Scrolls of Jazz

Trolling through those old Melody Makers of Colin's is both a journey of discovery and curiosity.
The January 23, 1960 issue refers to the JAZZ HERALDS (sounds like a juvenile jazz band!) replacing the Mighty Joe Young Jazzmen at the Downbeat Club - anyone recall the Heralds? 
The same issue mentions the JAZZ PROPHETS at the Highpoint in Whitley Bay. Are the Prophets without honour even in their own country?
An earlier issue of MM (15/2/41) reveals that a Conn alto (s/no 281639) was stolen from R.S. Kitchen's shop in Leeds. I wonder, is this durable horn still around?
Finally, Colin has almost completed his 1926 collection apart from... Volume 1, number 10, October 1926.
Is there a copy still around?
