RIP Sheila Tracy

Sadly, the news reported earlier today has been confirmed and the wonderful Sheila Tracy is no longer with us. I use the term wonderful without exaggeration for she was indeed a wonderful and multi talented person.
I never met her but adored her spoken words when she used to compère the BBC Big Band shows on radio.
But most of all I think it was reading, and referring to, many times those two fabulous books - Bands, Booze and Broads and Talking Swing. Surely two of the most readable and informative books of the swing/big band era both here and in the States.
If it's possible to love someone without ever meeting them then this was surely the case for me and I'm sure, many others.
Sheila Tracy died yesterday (Sept. 30) aged 80.
Very sadly missed may she rest in peace.
Obituary.
Lance.
