This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. RIP Jack Bruce

Jack Bruce, composer, bass guitarist, vocalist, died today  (October 25) age 71. Perhaps best known as part of super-group Cream, Bruce was not without his jazz leanings. He always claimed that he was a jazz man at heart and he certainly played and recorded with many jazz and blues legends starting north of the border with Jim McHarg's Scotsville Jazz Band. Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated, John Mayall's Blues Breakers and Tony Williams' Lifetime were just some of the many musicians he was associated with.
A bass guitar icon, the heavenly rhythm section will be rockin' tonight.

Yes,another great musician passes on. He was certainly the main man who got me into Bass all those decades ago

Sad news, but his musical legacy lives on. Saw him in 2012 (Tyne Theatre) - what energy he had even then !!
