Sage
Gateshead is hosting its second annual
festival - ‘Everyone Deserves Music’- aimed at everyone interested in the value
of music in our lives.
Teachers, musicians,
music practitioners and music organisations will descend on the international
music centre from April to hear from inspirational cultural leaders as well as
performances from music degree students studying at the venue. The festival is
being run in partnership with Sound Sense – the UK
Keynote speakers at a
Symposium on April 29 include François Matarasso (writer and researcher and
author of Use or Ornament) and Green Party Leader Natalie Bennett. They will be
addressing the following subjects: ‘Music: What is it Good for?’ (Francois
Matarasso) and ‘How Can Music Save the Planet?’ (Natalie Bennett)
Throughout April and
early May students from the BA (Hons) Community Music degree (delivered by Sage
Gateshead in partnership with University
of Sunderland
Katherine Zeserson,
Director of Learning and Participation, at Sage Gateshead, said: “Everyone
Deserves Music is a region-wide celebration of why music is so important for
all of us and highlights the importance and benefits of being involved in
music, whether that’s as a performer, a participant or audience member. The
Symposium is also a great opportunity for people to meet like-minded peers and
explore new ways of involving more people in music-making.”
