Bebop Spoken There

Dick Katz: "Carmen [McRae] would say some pretty caustic things but, so what? There aren't any people who don't talk caustically to each other at some time unless they're Mother Teresa." - (Lesley Gourse: Carmen McRae Miss Jazz - Billboard Books 2001, 2020)

The Things They Say!

A poignant moment from this year's GIJF

A very special moment from the inaugural reception of this year's festival  must be recorded here both for now and for posterity.
The family of the late trombonist, pianist, composer, bandleader, arranger, educator and gentleman RAY CHESTER confirmed that Ray's library of music has been donated to and accepted by Sage Gateshead for the edification of future student musicians and orchestras - by comparision the Dead Sea Scrolls pale into insignificance. It will be known as "The Ray Chester Collection"
The song may be ended but the melody will linger on forever...
I hope the family won't think I'm being facetious in saying "The Ray Chester Story" would make a wonderful movie - are you listening MGM?
Lance.
