I bought a copy at the Sage and have been listening to it ever since. The blurb from the record label Babel says that on it you can hear 'hints of Canterbury-style prog rock, weightless free improv, deep modal swing, and sensitive balladry all mixed together...' but don't let that put you off - its fantastic! The compositions, the playing and the production are all excellent and really showcase how good our local musicians are. I've had to stop listening to it in the car as I found myself speeding faster and faster down the Coast Road trying to keep up with all that is going on in the music. Those 'Giant Mice' are really something else.
A reviewer from the launch gig at the Vortex in London said that the new album was like a 'slap in the face from the North!' I don't know if Andy and Co. are really challenging softie Southern jazzers to a duel at dawn but what we need up here very soon is an AVC late night, hot and sweaty live gig playing the album. What about it?
